For the second time in three years, World Amateur Tour members visited Scandinavia and walked the fairways of master class Bro Hof Slott golf Club, ranked number one in Scandinavia.
With perfect conditions, beneath beautiful sunshine and warm temperatures the contestants were delighted to discover Robert Trent Jones’ design.
Marc Topiol, recent winner at The PGA Catalunya, was touched by sun light during this first round but closely followed by motivated pretenders; Jean-Philippe Talmon, Yann Robin and Cyril Doucet.
After shooting 33 points on the first day Topiol was two points ahead of JP Talmon’s 31 points and 4 ahead of Pascal Coulon’s 29, heading into the final day.
The second round offered a great match between the two leaders giving Talmon a chance to come back over the last nine. But with a final birdie on the par 5 15th, Marc Topiol would cruise up to the 18th finishing with 36 stableford points for the day and a back to back win in the 2020/21 Season. J.P Talmon came second and won the Gross Series’ first prize. And with a 58 point total, Luc-Marie Grésle took 3rd place and the trophy in the 2nd Series division.
Playing his first event of the season, Joyenval Golf Club’s Patrick Aidan captured the title in The Legends series division.
With this win Marc Topiol jumps to the top of the World Amateur Tour Ranking with 200 000 points followed by Boris Krasnenkov with 127 320 and Jean-Philippe Talmon at 115 170 points.
In the ladies series Anne-Catherine Robin took advantage over Stéphanie Chapon and Marion Doucet during the first day, shooting a wonderful 30 points.
During the final and last round, Stéphanie Chapon from Paris International Club created a surprise during the last three holes and went on to beat Anne-Catherine by only one shot to win the title in the ladies series.
Karina Budantseva remain the leader of the ranking with 200 000 points followed by Irina Nesterova with 154 000 points and Anne Catherine Robin, 3rd with 121490 points.
All players are now looking forward to Scotland’s The Renaissance Club, home of last week’s Scottish Open. No doubt everyone will be keen to walk in the footsteps of the great champions; Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, and Ian Poulter.
