HOTEL

World Amateur Tour Dubai Inaugural Championship
The One and Only Royal Mirage Hotel

The One&Only Royal Mirage is a romantic beachfront resort made up of three properties – the regal Arabian Court, the Moorish-style Palace and the intimate Residence & Spa. Guests can expect sea-facing rooms, abundant gardens, a lavish spa and some of the city’s best restaurants.

The resort is a 25-minute drive from the airport and a short private boat ride across the bay to sister property One&Only The Palm. It’s found on Jumeirah Beach beside the Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina is just down the road. For shopping, Mall of the Emirates is a 10-minute drive away.

Minimalists look away. This modern Arabian property is outrageously opulent with vaulted arches, grand domes, bronze Bedouin statues, mosaic-tiled corridors and hand-painted ceilings. With 65 acres of manicured gardens and pools interspersed with palm-tree islands, it is the largest One&Only resort in the world, yet it still has an intimate boutique hotel feel.

GOLF COURSE

Golf Course 1

Jumeirah Golf Estate – Earth Course, par 72, 7,706 yards

The Earth Course is one of Jumeriah Golf Estates’ two championship golf courses designed by the professional golf legend Greg Norman. Measuring 7,706 yards from the championship tees, the Earth Course boasts 18 holes with spectacular views of white, graceful-through-deep bunkers. Each hole is designed to blend into the surrounding landscape, with the challenging 18th hole split up its entire length by a stunning creek.

Voted the 82nd best course in the world in leading global golf publication Golf Digest’s ‘World’s Top 100 Golf Courses’, The Jumeirah Golf Estates is the host venue of the European Tour’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship who has welcomed the world’s top 60 golfers every year for the past nine years, attracting over 65,000 visitors from across the globe.

Golf Course 2

Emirates Golf Club – Majilis Course , par 72, 7,706 yards

The flagship course at Emirates Golf Club, The Majlis championship course is a challenging par 72, 7,301-yard layout. Designed by Florida-based course architect Karl Litten, the original 18 holes were built in and around the dunes of a beautiful site on the edge of the city of Dubai, donated by His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, on whose instructions the desert flora was maintained in its natural state.

The Majlis course has developed a worthy reputation worldwide as a testing layout for even the best golfers. The course features hundreds of indigenous species of flora and fauna, beautifully complemented by meandering fairways and seven fresh and saltwater lakes.

The Majlis, the first grass course in the Middle East, takes its name from the Arabic word for ‘meeting place’. One of the most prominent features on the course is the Majlis building itself positioned between the 8th and 9th holes and a Dubai landmark since 1988.

For its 5th anniversary, the World Amateur Tour offered its members the opportunity to discover another great championship Course, the Jumeirah Golf Estate, home of the DP World Championship.

Home resident Marco Saviozzi completed a great round with 36 points to quickly surge into the lead. In the meantime, 2018 World Amateur Tour champion Christophe Guedon shot 32 points followed by Swiss Dominique Rey with 31 points, putting themselves in contention for the final day.

For the next round, under a beautiful sun, players headed to The Emirates golf club and enjoyed a perfect setting.

Marco Saviozzi once again played his best golf and left no chance to the rest of the field. Christophe Guedon finally scored 27 points finishing 2nd and winner of the 2nd Series division, two points ahead of Dominique Rey.

For his first participation at the World Amateur Tour, Maurice Chagnaud, finishing 4th with 54 points total captured his first trophy in the Senior Series.

In the Ladies Series, thanks to a very hard work during all winter, Yulia Golubeva played two consistent rounds of golf during both days of the tournament, leaving no hope to her challengers, Irina Nesterova and Stéphanie Viscolo who respectively finished 2nd and 3rd.

All players will now meet in Portugal from May 8th to 11th for the Portuguese Championship, to be held at Oitavos Dunes, Portugal’s n°1 course and Top 100 golf course in the World.
