Irina Nesterova lifts her first trophy at Turnberry while Christophe Guedon becomes Links Champion of the year
nce again the World Amateur Tour members came together to face one of the most challenging golf courses on the planet with perfect conditions and beautiful setting. The Ailsa course at Turnberry offered the players a great test and an ideal opportunity to size their ability to links golf conditions.
With a stunning start and second best gross score of the day, Christophe Guedon played a fabulous first round scoring 35 points stableford. Just two points behind, Jerry Sarvadi from The Renaissance was in contention before the second round, followed by Bernard Jossein. The next morning, the three players met on the first tee and had to face tougher conditions with a strong wind and a few Scottish showers.
The suspense and the tensions were big after the turn but Guedon, shooting four pars and one bogey on the back nine, kept his advantage over Jerry Sarvadi who suffered a terrible putting during the round but finally took the Seniors series Claret Jug.
In the Second series, Luc-Marie Greslé was happy with his game and collected his first trophy, thanks to his two coaches Philippe Allain and Fabrice Tarnaud who gave him precious advice during the tournament
The top two World Amateur Tour Ladies in the ranking, Yulia Golubeva and Irina Nesterova were going to be face to face for another duel in Turnberry. After shooting just one point better than Yulia, Irina Nesterova played a very consistent second round into the wind and finally won her first title putting her in contention and giving her a chance to overcome Yulia Golubeva for the final title.
The new ranking gives a little advantage to Christophe Guedon; with this win, he jumps to the first spot of the 2019 World Amateur Tour Ranking, with 232364 points followed by Marco Saviozzi and Sylvain Berger-Duquene with respectively 163183 and 157 200 points.
