“Women’s day” at Quinta Do Lago as Anne Catherine Robin defeats all the boys

Quinta Do Lago Resort was the chosen host to open the 2022 season, and the 3rdedition of The Portuguese Championship.

Having recently hosted some of the greatest golfing legends, such as Colin Montgomery, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Anika Sorenstam and Loren Ochoa, all the players enjoyed the set up of Quinta Do Lago’s North Course.
Recently restored the course offers perfect conditions within a wonderful environment near the Atlantic coast.

La Reserva Club’s Marc Topiol played the best round of day one with a score of 30 points stableford, closing his round with two birdies on the last five holes. Philippe Sormani scored 27 points, two ahead of Jean-Philippe Talmon with 25 points.

Then came the second round! All players teed off on the 1st hole beneath beautiful sunshine with an opportunity to face one the most challenging courses in Portugal and home of many Portuguese Opens in the past.

The final round quickly turned into a battle between JP Talmon , Marc Topiol and Frédéric Sebag. Talmon would play a wonderful front nine whilst Topiol did not have such a great start. Talmon was closing in on the lead until he had two really bad holes on the 11th and 12th which ruined any chances of success. Marc Topiol would cruise to another easy win in the men’s series with a total points of 57, three ahead of Frédéric Sebag winner of the first prize in the Legend Series.

The trophy for the best score in the 2ndseries goes to Philippe Bucheton.

In the ladies series the battle was also a serious one.
The biggest performance would come from Anne-Catherine Robin who had two fabulous rounds and a total score of 66 points to become the first woman to win the overall ranking and defeating all the men.

Anne-Catherine from Le Prieuré, enjoyed everything at Quinta Do Lago and with a super caddy drove her to an unprecedented win.

The World Amateur Tour Ranking now shows Marc Topiol leading in the men’s division and Anne-Catherine Robin in the Ladies series.

Everyone is now looking forward to Rome where The Italian Championship will be played at Marco Simone’s Ryder Cup Course from May 26thto 29th.
