Sylvain Berger Duquene wins second title and becomes 2019 World Amateur Tour Champion as Karina Budantseva cruises to first victory at La Reserva Sotogrande.

For the first time, Andalucia was chosen to welcome the final tournament of the year to be played at one of the most beautiful golf courses in Europe, La Reserva Sotogrande. Despite some heavy rain, the golf course was in perfect condition and the greens looked as fast as a major championship.

Once again this year nobody would be able to tell the name of the future winner of both Tournament and Overall title. Only 4 players teeing off this week had a chance to win. Amongst them, the defending champion Christophe Guedon, the 2016 Champion Yann Robin and the two rookies Sylvain Berger Duquene and Franck Henouda.

After a heavy rain during the night, the players were ready to tee off a full round on Friday. Yann Robin quickly took the lead with a very good score of 32 points Stableford showing that he was going to be the man to catch on the week-end. Sylvain Berger Duquene and Christophe Guedon both scored 30 points and gave themselves a chance to win the last day.

For the second and last round of the tournament, everyone was ready for the final count down. It was going to be a crazy day and until the last hole nobody could tell who the 2019 champion was going to be. Robin turned 3 points ahead after 9 over Berger Duquene but thanks to a very good back nine Berger Duquene came to finish with a par on the 18th to win the title and the 2019 World Amateur Tour Champion.

In the Senior Series Jerry Sarvadi won the title with 58 points total followed by Franck Henouda who won the 2ndSeries Title becoming the 2019 Seniors Champion.

In the Ladies Series, Karina Budantseva took advantage of a very good knowledge of the course and overcame Santi Villena and good friend 2019 Champion Irina Nesterova.

After only two years playing golf, Karina Budantseva won her first trophy on the World Amateur Tour.

The 2019 Race to La Reserva is now over but all players have in mind the 2020 season which will start in Dubai from March 23rdto 25th.

A beautiful schedule will be proposed with stops in Mallorca, Sweden, Scotland, Andalucia and Morocco.

Inspired by Sergio Garcia, Switzerland’s Dominique Rey wins at La Reserva Club

Dominique Rey on the the 10th tee at La Reserva on his way to wining the Championship

For the first time in 4 years La Reserva de Sotogrande hosted the 5th leg of The World Amateur Tour.

Our players savored the perfect conditions of the course during the 3 days.

But the biggest surprise came during the opening ceremony when announcing super star and US Open Champion Michael Campbell alongside with LGPA multiple winner Florence Descampe as the official coaches for the tournament.

First time playing in a World Amateur Tour Event, Serge Melchiorre was going to do the best start during the first round posting 4 birdies over the first 16 holes and a couple of bogeys to score 35 points.

After a double bogey on n°2, Switzerland’s Dominique Rey posted 2 birdies and 2 bogeys to finish tied after the first round.

The next morning the wonderful setting of La Reserva course was going to offer the perfect scene to the final battle between 3 potential winners.

Jacky Casanova who posted a score of 32 the first day was going to do the perfect start with 3 birdies and 3 bogeys to score 19 points stableford on the front nine and moved just one point behind Rey and Melchiorre.

Rey made a big move on the Amen Corner with one birdie and one bogey while the two French players shot three consecutive bogeys.

Nothing would stop Dominique Rey who cruised to his second win this year after the Portuguese Championship.

In the Second series, Christophe Chapon posted two good scores to overcome Christophe Guedon by one shot.

In the Ladies series, nobody could tell who was going to win the 2018 edition.

Defending champions Ines Sastre, Anne Catherine Robin and Santi Villena played very consistently until the 16th hole the second day.

Santi Villena posted the best scores on the last three holes with 5 points stableford to capture the Andalucia Classic Championship for the second time in three years.

Positions moved a lot in the World Amateur Tour Ranking as Dominique Rey is now leading with 200 000 points just in front of Christophe Guedon and Jerry Sarvadi.

Anne-Catherine Robin is still leading the Women’s ranking with 201100 points followed by Stéphanie Chapon with 175 000 points.

Next stop, The TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP will take place in South Africa for the Finals from November 29th to December 2nd.
